My Roman Empire is Nostalgia

I often get swept away by the tender reminiscences of that summer, like it’s a beloved chapter from a life that feels like it’s from another life entirely. I used to feel heartache over those afternoons, but now there is just a serene melancholy, like the fading light of dusk. The flowers bloomed brightly, the sky stayed blue, and the sun seemed to tarry a bit longer, reluctant to let go. summer felt infinite, a never-ending string of serenity. The way the world slowed down in the heat, and the sunlight turned the trees into glowing embers, made it feel like the world took a backseat, cradled in peace as rare as rocking horse manure, a peace we only stumble upon when were young, when time seems like it’s on our side, and life is a blank slate. Sleepless nights hit me like a ton of bricks thinking about those summers when everything was a piece of cake. Sometimes I am on the verge of tears, while other times, all that’s left is a pain. I lose track of the days like before, but this time it’s not the same. Time crawls, and I find myself waiting, hoping for something to break the routine. So I wait, listening to the hum of the earth, watching the birds find their perch while the world spins on. the summer afternoons still roll around, but they don’t offer the getaway they used to. I am longing for a love where every word hits home, knowing it holds the key to my happiness, and every action treats my heart with kid gloves. I am ready to trust in love once more, not as a storybook romance, but as a tangible force built on kindness, anchored in compassion, and an unspoken promise to stick together when challenges arise.
