Since The Dawn of Time

Nadyenka Yapto

My soul was unrestrained

Untouched by your mitts

No scars, scratches, or wounds

But still I enter a lost land

Where my heart only blooms for you

Though yours never does the same in return

When will I run my own course

Without you reverting back to my mind

I do not want to alter in the unfamiliarity of your absence

Though I’ve seen it since the dawn of time

Since the dawn of time, your name was engraved on my flesh

As my silhouette fades, yours stays

There is an ambivalence amidst your feigned affection

One I cannot remove or separate from my being

Because you paint my life

You keep the color and burn it to ashes
